TPS Holds Joplin Disaster Relief Drive

Tulsa Public Schools is reaching out to our neighbors in Joplin following the devastating tornado on Sunday, May 22. Tulsa Council of PTAs is sponsoring a Joplin Disaster Relief Drive to support Joplin Public Schools.

TPS buses will be stationed at all of the district's 9 high schools for donation drop offs. Booker T. Washington, Edison, East Central, McLain, Memorial, Rogers, Webster, Hale and Central High Schools will collect donations for the students, families and teachers in the Joplin area. The donation drive will kick off at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 27 and continue until 5 p.m. The QuikTrip Corporation has volunteered a semi truck to help transport the donations to Joplin early next week.

Anyone wishing to help can contact Karen Gilbert, president of Tulsa Council of PTAs, at 918-691-1901. A list of items needed in Joplin is provided below:

  • Household cleaning supplies
  • Bedding
  • Pillows
  • Non-perishable food
  • Snacks (that don't require refrigeration)
  • Bottled water
  • Sanitary supplies (handwipes, waterless hand-sanitizer, medical gloves--preferably non-latex, etc.)
  • Work gloves (critical during cleanup)
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Small first aid kits
  • Clothes (both adult and child sizes)
  • Shoes (both adult and child sizes)
  • Socks (both adult and child sizes)
  • Pet food
